FAQs

Q: What are your hours and what is the best method of contacting you?
A:  We are open immediately before and after scheduled class times and by appointment.  Cycledelic does not have a front desk and is not “open” outside of scheduled class times.  However, answering your questions is a priority and we love the opportunity to show off the studio!  If you’d like to see the studio, you are welcome to set up an appointment to do so by contacting Kathy@cycledelicstudio.com.  If you call and no one is here, rest assured your call will be returned once someone returns to the studio.  If you would like a question answered sooner, please feel free to email Kathy@cycledelicstudio.com and Kathy will respond to your question or concern ASAP.

Q: What do you define as a “student” and a “senior”?
A: Students are ages 14+, in grades 9-12, or enrolled at least part-time in a college or university.  Seniors are 62+.

Q: I’ve heard that indoor cycling classes (a.k.a. “Spin®”) are especially hard.  Will I be able to keep up?
A: For too long indoor cycling has been associated with “kill-‘em-on-a-bike” types of workouts.  At Cycledelic, we have some of the best educated instructors out there who appreciate the benefits of varying workout intensity.  They understand and appreciate that students need to go at their own pace and encourage them to do so.   Each student is on their own bike and has full control over resistance, speed and overall intensity.  We respect that each person is on a unique fitness journey and honor them wherever they might be along that path.  There is a place for everyone at Cycledelic.

Q: What should I expect for my first class?
A:  The studio is located at Twelve Corners Plaza and there is plenty of free parking available.  Once inside the studio, you can hang your coat, change your shoes and fill your water bottle before stowing any other personal belongings in our in-studio cubbies.  The studio itself is usually dimly lit and depending on the instructor/class may be awash in special effects lighting.  You may notice a screen at the front of the room if that day’s ride is using video projection.  The fifteen student bikes are spaced close together, so plan to make friends and introduce yourself to your neighbors.  You should arrive at least ten minutes early to your first class so that your instructor has adequate time to fit you on a bike, ensuring a safe and comfortable ride for you.  Your instructor will be located at the front of the room on an instructor stage, but may leave the bike to provide additional coaching throughout the class.  The instructor will use a microphone to ensure you hear all of his/her instructions, cueing and coaching.  Classes last one hour, including a warm-up, cool-down and stretch.

Q: I like “hard core” cycling classes with hovers, isolations and push-ups on the bike.  I can feel the burn and know I’m getting a great workout.  Which of your instructors teaches in that style?
A:  None.  Hovers, isolations, push-ups, one-handed movements, using resistance tools, etc… all amount to a waste of time on the bike and their only “benefit” is increasing your risk of injury.  Indoor cycling should be about training that produces measurable results in an engaging way.  Our instructors will not resort to trick choreography to entertain you.  Instead, they will lead you on many different types of profiles using varying music, visual aid, special effects lighting but above all else, sound training principles.  The proof lies in the results.  Come try a class at Cycledelic and see what measured power can do for you.  We doubt you’ll miss the tricks once you’re hooked on the journey.  We even invite you to track your own progress via the bike’s USB-enabled onboard computer system so you can measure the results yourself.

Q:  What should I wear?
A:  A moisture wicking top, tight-fitting bottoms and stiff-soled shoes.

You don’t want your bottoms to have excess material that can get caught in the pedals or bunch up causing discomfort.  The best bottoms to wear are padded bike shorts, but compression shorts can work, too.   Running shorts tend to bunch causing discomfort and yoga pants are often too wide at the bottom.

The best shoes to wear are stiff-soled cycling shoes, as you do not want flexion in the foot while cycling.  If you don’t have cycling shoes then we urge you to wear your stiffest-soled pair of sneakers.  Minimalist sneakers are strongly discouraged.  All of our bikes are fitted with SPD style clips as well as conventional cages.

Q: What should I bring?
A: A water bottle.  Towels for class are provided and there is a drinking fountain on site.

Q:  Should I eat before class?
A: Yes.  You should not work out on an empty stomach.   Likewise, you do not want to eat too close to class time, either.  Try a small meal or snack featuring whole grain carbohydrates at least a half hour prior to class if you’re wondering where to start.  Cyclists have different preferences for fueling, so do what works best for you.  Many people have the best luck with whole grain carbohydrates prior to class and lean proteins after class.  Bananas offer wonderful fuel as well.  Gels, power bars, sports drinks, etc… really aren’t necessary for the average class.

Q: How do I sign up for a class?
A:  Use the “Schedule” tab on our website and sign up via our online scheduling system.  You will need to create an account and pay by credit card.  Only clients that sign up online are guaranteed a bike.  Clients may choose to walk-in for a class and pay in person as long as bikes are available at that time.  Walk-ins are not guaranteed a bike.  The first class for any client is always free.

Q: Can I get a free pass?
A:  Every client’s first ride is free.  We invite you to come try a class at Cycledelic at no risk to you.  To do so, please go to our Schedule Tab, Click "Sign Up" next to the class you wish to take and fill out the box for "New to Our Site." At online checkout scroll down to select "First Ride Free" as your payment option.

Q: I need to cancel my reservation.  Will I get a refund?
A:  Clients may cancel a reservation online up to 1 hour ahead of the class to receive a refund.  If there is less than 1 hour remaining before class when a client cancels, no refund will be given.  No-shows will not be refunded.

Q:  What type of bikes do you have in your studio?
A:  FreeMotion Fitness S11.9 indoor cycles, featuring an onboard computer with measured power, heart rate and cadence (speed), and USB port for tracking your progress on your computer at home. They also feature magnetic resistance for a smooth feeling ride.

Q:  Can I get a tour of the studio?
A:  Sure!  Contact Kathy@cycledelicstudio.com to schedule one.

Q:  Is talking allowed during class?
A:  It depends, and we leave it to the discretion of each instructor.  Some profiles lend themselves to socialization and class involvement.  Other times, conversation would distract from the profile at hand.  Please be respectful of the instructor’s wishes concerning conversation for their class and remember that conversation is usually distracting to your fellow riders.

We do ask that you set your cell phones to vibrate if you must bring them into the studio, and if you need to engage in a phone conversation or a non-class-related conversation, to please take those conversations to the lounge area.  We also ask that you not wear ear buds, earphones, etc… into the studio.  This is for your safety as well as out of respect to the instructor and your fellow riders.

Q:  Do you have shower facilities?
A:  Yes.  There are two private, unisex showers on site.  While there are no dedicated locker rooms, there are cubbies to store your belongings, a separate unisex bathroom, and an area with hair dryers to tend to hair, make-up, etc…  Everything is set up to allow clients to get in and out quickly.

Q: I once took a cycling class and my “back side” hurt for days.  Is there anything I can do to relieve that discomfort?
A: Yes.  The best method of relief is to invest in a pair of padded cycling shorts.  They are available at bike shops and sports retailers.  A less expensive though less effective alternative is to purchase a foam or gel seat cover, often available at bike shops and large retailers like Wal-Mart or Target.  Take solace in the fact that your back side will eventually become accustomed to being in the saddle and the discomfort, if any, will be negligible.

Q: Do you have child care available?
A: No, we do not.

Q: Can my children sit in the lounge while I’m in class?
A: For the sake of their safety, they cannot.

Q: What type of pedals are your bikes equipped with?
A: Our bikes feature SPD-compatible pedals as well as conventional cages.
